Clinical Director

Carla is the owner and clinical director of Victoria Speech and Language Centre. Carla has been practicing in speech language pathology since 2007. She previously worked in Vancouver at UBC Hospital and in private practice until moving back ‘home’ to Victoria in 2015. In her 8 years at UBC hospital, Carla gained broad experience assessing and treating adults with swallowing disorders due to conditions such as a stroke, progressive neurological disease, or brain injury.  Carla also worked with the Early Intervention Program at Queen Alexandra Children’s Centre servicing children 0-5 yrs of age and their families.  She has extensive experience working with autistic children of all ages in 1:1 therapy and in small peer groups.  She has a passion for working within a neurodiversity-affirming framework and is leading the clinical team in learning from autistic voices and unlearning many of ableist ways clinicians are taught in graduate school.   She is a passionate leader and is committed to keeping all Victoria Speech and Language clinicians at the top of their field and up to date in all the latest research.  She has initiated the neurodiversity newsletters that get sent to clients every month as well as the neurodiversity caregiver education and support group.  In her spare time, Carla enjoys spending time with her husband and their two boys as well as biking, hiking, running and anything active and outdoors.
