Our Approach

At Victoria Speech and Language Centre, we truly believe that your child is the way that they were meant to be.

We recognize that.

That is why all of our services are designed to support autistic individuals and their families in a way that
HONOURS their neurodiversity, and focuses on their STRENGTHS.

At Victoria Speech and Language Centre, you will always find safe, supportive and inclusive support.

A few years ago as a centre, we underwent a significant shift in our approach to autism services; moving away from the traditional medical model, to our current approach of embracing the social model of disability. The social model of disability views disability as a result of societal barriers, rather than individual impairments, emphasizing the need to remove these barriers to promote equality and inclusion for disabled individuals. As part of this, we are committed to the continual unlearning of the compliance based, ableist approach which, as professionals, we were taught throughout our schooling. A significant component of this unlearning is actively listening to the autistic community for direction. After all, who better to guide and advise the support, than the people we are supporting!
