Vanessa holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Linguistics from Queen’s University and a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Alberta. Vanessa previously worked as a school SLP in Calgary, in the areas of speech sound production, language development, fluency, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), as well as social communication.
Vanessa works with autistic clients from a neurodiversity-affirmative lens. Presuming competence, providing access to AAC, supporting emotional and sensory regulation, as well as building self-advocacy are essential components to her approach. Vanessa believes in supporting clients’ interests and strengths to develop communication. Vanessa continues to update her practice by reading research, participating in professional development courses, and by listening to the lived experiences of the autistic community.
Vanessa moved to Victoria in the summer of 2020, with her partner and Boston Terrier. In her spare time, Vanessa enjoys playing board games, hiking, cycling, and baking.
