Mariah Rickman, OT

Mariah is an occupational therapist who completed her Master of Occupational Therapy at the University of British Columbia. Prior to discovering her passion for OT, Mariah received her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology at the University of Victoria and worked as a community support worker in greater Victoria. Mariah has had the incredible opportunity to support children, ages 6 weeks to 18 years, and their families at the Queen Alexandra Centre for Children’s Health as part of the Pediatric Feeding and Swallowing, NICU Follow-up, and Early Intervention Programs. Mariah is passionate about learning and is committed to continuing to expand her knowledge base and hone her OT skills. In her clinical practice, Mariah strives to build strong therapeutic relationships with her clients and create a safe, collaborative, and neurodiversity-affirming space where children and families can develop and practice strategies that promote meaningful participation in everyday activities. She feels privileged to work alongside children and families to support them to harness their strengths and thrive in their everyday environments. In her spare time, Mariah loves to enjoy the west coast lifestyle with friends and family, including skiing, paddle boarding, hiking, and sitting down to solve a puzzle on a rainy day!

Mariah’s training includes:

  • CO-OP Approach course by Helen Polatajko
  • Moira Pena’s Course: “A comprehensive introduction to sensory processing and autism: Towards the development of a strengths-based and neurodiversity-affirming occupational therapy practice”
  • Marsha Dunn Klein’s Responsive Feeding Course: “The Get Permission Approach to Anxious Eaters, Anxious Mealtimes”
