Julia Loreth, OT

Julia knew she wanted to be an Occupational Therapist while in High School and received her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2009. After graduation, Julia came to Vancouver Island and started working in private practice before moving over to the public sector.  Julia has worked with clients across the lifespan, from infants and young children in early Intervention, school-age students in their homes and schools, as well as adults and seniors in the community. Julia enjoys working collaboratively to create person-centered, meaningful programs and functional goals.

Julia’s love for working with kids started at a young age.  With her mother working for Variety Club of Southern Alberta, Julia volunteered at several events from the age of 5.  Assisting Santa with handing out gifts at Christmas brunches to being Raggedy Ann at fund raisers.  This quickly turned into volunteering for the Between Friends Club in Calgary, an organization that runs social and recreational activities for children and young adults with disabilities.  Julia volunteered at their summer day camp before becoming a leader herself.  From the age of 16, Julia has been working 1 on 1 with Autistic kids in their home doing behaviour interventionist work, an Education Assistant in a pre-school classroom with students with Autism and Down Syndrome, as well as running evening and weekend group activities for young adults in the community while completing her undergraduate degree at the University of Calgary.

Julia loves exploring the island with her husband and two young kids.  She can be found throughout the summer months swimming in one of the many lakes around town.
