Jess Shotton

Human Resources Manager

Making a splash at VSLC in the summer of 2022, Jess began her journey with us behind the reception desk, and didn’t waste any time becoming our centre’s Human Resources Manager. Originally from the UK, Jess has called Canada home for the last 6 years, initially residing in Whistler, before moving to vibrant Victoria, and then most recently relocating to the Southern Gulf Islands to be the caretaker of a farm (the sheep, chickens and peacocks won’t look after themselves!) Education wise, Jess got herself a journalism, film and media degree in 2012 from Cardiff University, UK. Since then, she has lived in 4 different countries and has thrived on pushing herself out of her comfort zone. With over 15 years experience in the service industry,  it has been a long and weird road to get to her current role with us at VSLC. In her previous life, Jess was an axe throwing venue manager, community donation centre supervisor and a banana sorter to name a few!. Although one thing has remained consistent throughout her career, Jess is always drawn to roles centered around people. Her enduring belief that human connection is at the heart of everything drives her mission to bring people together. Applying this at VSLC, Jess has helped cultivate our diverse, inclusive and energetic culture. Jess is a natural at developing strong relationships, both professionally and personally. In fact, you might have just become her best friend without even realizing it! When she’s not trailblazing through the HR world, you can find Jess dancing around whilst doing her farm chores, jumping in some cold water, making friends with your dog and sipping on some local wine.
