Elaine McGoogan, RSLP

Elaine graduated in speech and language therapy from the University of Ulster (Northern Ireland) in 1994 and has been working with the paediatric population since 1995 . She worked in a variety of settings over 18 years in Scotland, from community clinics, nursery, primary and secondary schools through to a specialised language class which focused on children with significant speech and language needs.

Elaine moved to Canada in 2012 and has worked mainly with autistic children in a private autism agency in Victoria but also had the opportunity to work within a school district, in private schools, as well as some private practice.

Her focus has always been family-centred therapy, believing that we do not achieve the clients true potential if not supported throughout the time away from the therapy session. Building a strong rapport with the child and their family is her main goal; this leads to being attuned to the child and building a connection based on their motivations and interests.  She enjoys being a fun and flexible therapist who aims to target therapy based on client and family needs.

She loves working with children of all ages. She also enjoys doing teletherapy, a by-product of the pandemic!

If she weren’t a speech and language pathologist, she’d be a baker. Her other love! On the weekends you will find her in the garden, doing my best to grow things deer don’t eat!!
